BBBC09#1!
Author: JessicaLast year, Alicia Chenaux came up with a weekly challenege to get bloggers off their butts and back to their keyboards. The Big Bad Blogger Challenge is back for another year and that’s great. I can always use an idea of something to blog about other than what I’m wearing.
Today, she wants to know
How long have you been a blogger? How has it enriched your life?
I’ve blogged for a long time, back before they called it blogging. I had ‘online diaries’ on a bunch of different platforms, some that are long gone. Free Open Diary is a site that merged into Open Diary and wiped all the old accounts. My Dear Diary holds a bunch of my old poetry. Zanga and Blogspot held onto my high school woes until I moved to LiveJournal after getting an invite code from a friend, back when you had to be invited to the site. I moved from that to designing my own websites hosted on free platforms, trying to disable popup and banner ads. After while, I just broke down and purchased my own domain and hosting.
I’d say over all, I’ve been ‘blogging’ for at least 10 years and I’m not even old. It’s hard to think people have probably been out there typing away for years longer than I have.
As far as enrichment goes, I don’t think I’ve gotten much out of it until more recently after I’ve found myself in Second Life. In real life, you’re one of the zillions of blogs online and no one cares that you hate your science teacher. In Second Life, you’re only one in a thousand or so regular bloggers. If you want to be someone, Second Life is the place to try. Without much effort, I’ve found my way onto the friend lists of several residents who I feel are on the A-list (or at least some special ‘list’). With a little more effort on my end, maybe someday I’ll have people piddling when I approve their friend request.
