Today’s look

Author: Jessica

I’ve been tromping around the GossipGirl sim because I’ve never really been there.  Little did I know, it’s actually closing soon.  At least, that’s what I gathered from the street fair, rides, vendor booths and signs saying ‘Goodbye GossipGirl’.  Could always mean something else, I’m sure.  Today’s look is nothing out of the ordinary…  I think.  I can’t really see what I’m wearing through my hair.

There’s a meme going around asking what has inspired our avatars.  I think it breaks down basically to this:

Trading PlaceSL

Author: Jessica

Lol, see what I did with the title?

I’m glad Alicia came up with a BBBC topic for today, because I haven’t had much going on my my SLife and I’ve been wearing the same outfit for a few days.  She wants to know

If there was someone you could trade places with for one day in Second Life, who would it be and why? Bonus points if you find this person and snap a picture with them!

I know exactly who I’d switch places with, but because she scares me and is a self-googling, name calling, finger wagging crazy cat lady, I’m going to refrain from using their name.  On one hand, I want to understand how she’s made it where she is while being publicly insane and know more about the drama that has gone down between her and a group of individuals representing a certain Californian college.  On the other, griefing is fun and it would be easy to grief myself.

I must admit, I don’t know much about this person and the drama, but it’s interesting and the college individuals previously mentioned share most of the same feelings I have about freedom of expression in Second Life.

Just in case, I’m going to say this up front.  I’m leaving names out because I’m a shitless bystander when it comes to serious drama.  I’ll admit it.  I’m a no-one in Second Life and should I make the wrong people mad, I could lose what I have.

But, hey, I had to write my BBBC post about something!

My own sim?

Author: Jessica

Today’s BBBC question asks what I would do if I had my own sim:

You’ve been given a sim of your very own to use for free for one year. However, there are 3 rules. It cannot be residential, it cannot be commercial, and it has to be open to the public. What do you do with it?

Well, first off, I’d freak out.  No way I’d have enough money to afford my own sim that I’m not making money with, so I’m obviously loaded.  After spending a few hours setting up prim noobs and running them over with cars I would just start building.

I love retro future styling and I’d probably make at least part of it reflect that.  Perhaps four identical builds themed differently with a central meeting place where they all mesh together.

The whole build would be scripted and controllable via HUD… moving and changing lights, bridges, robot houses, raining penises…  complete chaos.  The island would be Mature because one of the quadrants would just be straight up internet memes.  Walk in through a goatse gate and catch a lemonparty on your way to the Hopkin green frog hunt.

On the ground would be fairly normal, but in the sky I’d love to let anyone do whatever they want.  If you’re offended, leave.

I would call it ‘lulz’.

I don’t know if Zindra is male or female, but it sounds female to me.

If for some reason you’ve been living under a plywood cube and then somehow made it to my blog, Zindra is the name of the continent the Lab plans on shipping all ‘mature’ content to soon.  Exactly when I’m not too sure.  Thankfully the only land I occupy is on a private island so the Lindens can’t do anything about my particle sperm spewing penis throne.

Right now, the theme of Zindra is something out of the near future with sharp lines, lots of glow and a pretend dam generating pretend electricity.  I didn’t care too much about the buildings.  There’s roads that stretch from one side of the sims to the other.  Sounds like a perfect opportunity to hop on my little scooter and do some driving.

Well, you’d think that.  There are these beautiful intersections with modern stop lights and walls to keep you from crashing into other turning cars.  The problem?  These intersections are built where FOUR sims connect!  FOUR!  To make a left hand turn, you have to move through three sims!  Needless to say, I had some problems:

Last year, Alicia Chenaux came up with a weekly challenege to get bloggers off their butts and back to their keyboards.  The Big Bad Blogger Challenge is back for another year and that’s great.  I can always use an idea of something to blog about other than what I’m wearing.

Today, she wants to know

How long have you been a blogger? How has it enriched your life?

I’ve blogged for a long time, back before they called it blogging.  I had ‘online diaries’ on a bunch of different platforms, some that are long gone.  Free Open Diary is a site that merged into Open Diary and wiped all the old accounts.  My Dear Diary holds a bunch of my old poetry.  Zanga and Blogspot held onto my high school woes until I moved to LiveJournal after getting an invite code from a friend, back when you had to be invited to the site.  I moved from that to designing my own websites hosted on free platforms, trying to disable popup and banner ads.  After while, I just broke down and purchased my own domain and hosting.

I’d say over all, I’ve been ‘blogging’ for at least 10 years and I’m not even old.  It’s hard to think people have probably been out there typing away for years longer than I have.

As far as enrichment goes, I don’t think I’ve gotten much out of it until more recently after I’ve found myself in Second Life.  In real life, you’re one of the zillions of blogs online and no one cares that you hate your science teacher.  In Second Life, you’re only one in a thousand or so regular bloggers.  If you want to be someone, Second Life is the place to try.  Without much effort, I’ve found my way onto the friend lists of several residents who I feel are on the A-list (or at least some special ‘list’).  With a little more effort on my end, maybe someday I’ll have people piddling when I approve their friend request.

Don’t let the surroundings and antlers fool you… I’m not the outdoorsy type in the slightest.  I picked up these boots from HOC the other day after seeing them somewhere in the blagowebs.  The multicolor laces option drew me to them immediately.  Everything that HOC sells is beautifully sculpted with baked textures and awesome prices.  It’s one of the only places I’ve spent more than 1L for a pair of shoes.

Nimil Blackflag
Ganked from her Snapzilla :3

I’ve never written up a Love Thursday before.  Then again, I didn’t really blog much before.  It seems to be the cool thing to do and today I have an appropriate something that I love that I can blog about.  That something is the magnificent rat-girl, Nimil Blackflag, who will never give you up and never let you down.  Let me tell you all about how my second life got flipped, turned upside-down.

I have a terrible memory and I can’t remember exactly when Nimil and I first met, but it’s not like that matters.  The way we get along, it’s like we’ve known each other for years.  We both like trolling /b/, being inappropriate and laughing at fugly noobs.  On the more serious note, Nimil and I have really clicked on a more emotional level.  We have a similar outlook on life and I know I can always talk to her about anything.

Nimil is also an amazing artist that likes to push the limit on what people think is proper and I love it.  Second Life needs more macabre artists that aren’t afraid to get ugly with art.  Well, it doesn’t need that many more, because I’ve got all I need through Nimil.

Today is actually Nimil’s 3rd rezday, so if you see her in world, be sure to drop her a line.  Happy rezday, rat-girl!
